Redact PDF

True redaction: mark areas visually or search for terms across all pages, then affected pages are rebuilt from rendered images with black vector overlays - the underlying text is gone, not hidden. Every export is verified against extractable text so you know the redaction held.

Processed locally in your browser. True redaction: pages you mark are rebuilt from a rendered image with the content permanently removed — not just covered. Text on those pages becomes non-selectable. Keep your original file; this cannot be undone. Redacting a signed PDF normally invalidates its existing cryptographic signatures.

How it works

  1. 1Open a PDF and drag boxes over sensitive areas, or search terms to mark every match.
  2. 2Review marked regions per page.
  3. 3Export rebuilds affected pages with content permanently removed.
  4. 4Automatic verification confirms the removed text can no longer be extracted.

Your privacy

This tool runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript and Web Workers. Your document is never uploaded to any server — you can even disconnect from the internet and keep working once the page has loaded.

Frequently asked questions

Why is this different from whiteout or a black rectangle?

Covering leaves the text intact underneath where anyone with tools can copy it. Redaction rebuilds the page itself so the data physically no longer exists.

Why does redacted page text become non-selectable?

Secure removal requires replacing the page with its rendered image. This is the honest trade-off; we verify removal rather than pretend otherwise.
